✓ Maud de Barry, wife of Maurice fitz John (slain 1261) and mother of Thomas fitz Maurice (d.1298): so named, then living, in the Inq. p.m. on John fitz Thomas 8 Aug 1282, and (deceased) in the Inq. p.m. on Thomas fitz Maurice 28 Apr 1300 (CP IV p.234 n.d). Her parentage is not given by CP; the Barrys of Olethan (later Lords Barry/Buttevant) are the obvious family - not wired. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. IV (1916), 'Desmond' pp.232-250 (article by G.W. Watson), read 25-26 Oct 2026 (archive.org djvu text). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 26 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||26 Oct 2026|| Rev. E. Barry (1902) adds the 1282 Kilmallock inquisition (Sweetman, Cal. Docs. Ireland): John FitzThomas 'had a cantred at Aylly held of John de Barry ... and that the Lady Matilda de Barry, wife of Maurice FitzJohn (slain at Callan A.D. 1261), had dower'; Miss Hickson's Desmond pedigree likewise 'Matilda de Barry (Inq. 21 Edw. I)'. Rev. Barry also quotes an Inisfallen gloss making Maurice's wife 'a daughter of Geoffrey de Mariscis' - the de Marisco story CP IV rejects. Her Barry parentage is still not stated by any source read (a daughter of David the Barrach Mór, k. 1261, would fit, but is not wired). Source: Rev. Edmond Barry, 'Barrymore: records of the Barrys of County Cork' (Cork 1902; reprinted from JCHAS 2nd ser. v-viii), archive.org barrymorerecords00barr, read 26 Oct 2026.
