Thomas FitzMaurice, lord of Decies and Desmond, died in 1298 and was buried at Tralee among the Geraldines of the south. He married a de Burgh, and his son Maurice became the first Earl of Desmond - the earldom whose poets, rebels and beheaded lords stud this ancestry.
