Research notes

✓ Mieszko I, Prince (dux) of the Polans, the first historically attested ruler of Poland (Widukind of Corvey's 'Misaca', Thietmar's 'Miseco'); baptised 966 after his marriage to Dobrawa of Bohemia; submitted to Otto I 963/72; d. 25 May 992. Father of Bolesław I 'Chrobry' (first crowned King of Poland, 1025) and - by an unidentified wife - of the daughter who married Erik of Sweden and Svend of Denmark (Thietmar: 'Miseconis filia ducis, soror Bolizlavi'). TOP - DELIBERATE STOP: his father Siemomysł and the earlier Piasts (Lestek, Siemowit, Piast the wheelwright) are known only from Gallus Anonymus (c.1115) and are not entered.
