✓ A daughter of Mieszko I, Prince of Poland, and sister of Bolesław I 'Chrobry'; wife 1st (c.985) of Erik 'Segersäll' King of Sweden and mother of his heir Olof Skötkonung; wife 2nd (c.995) of Svend 'Forkbeard' King of Denmark and mother of Cnut the Great - so Olof and Cnut were half-brothers. EVIDENCE (chronicle-grade, but she is never named by the two earliest witnesses): Thietmar of Merseburg (writing c.1012-18) calls the mother of Svend's sons 'Miseconis filia ducis, soror Bolizlavi' and says Svend long kept her in exile; Adam of Bremen (c.1075) records Svend marrying 'Herici relictam, matrem Olaph' (Erik's widow, mother of Olof), a variant manuscript adding that Bolesław gave 'a daughter or sister' to Erik, and that Olof later restored Svend to Denmark 'because he had his mother'; Saxo calls her 'Syritha' and Olof Svend's stepson, and has Olof return to Sweden 'with his mother Syritha'; the Encomium Emmae has Cnut fetch his mother from 'Sclavonia' in 1015. CONFLICT NOTED: Snorri and Fagrskinna make Olof's mother Sigrid 'the Haughty', daughter of Skoglar-Toste - the saga tradition, written two centuries later; Medieval Lands prefers the chronicles and shows Toste's daughter as a possible earlier, repudiated wife. The Polish name 'Świętosława' is a modern reconstruction (from a Winchester Liber Vitae entry for a sister of Cnut), not in any source for her. Her mother is NOT identified - Medieval Lands gives Mieszko's wife here as unknown, so Dobrawa of Bohemia is not asserted and the Přemyslid line is not entered. Graded ✓ on the consensus reading of Thietmar and Adam (see the 27 Oct 2026 review below). Source: Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), 'Sweden Kings: Erik 'Segersäll' (fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SWEDEN.htm), read 27 Oct 2026'. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 27 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||27 Oct 2026 - DECISION: KEPT AT ~ AFTER REVIEW|| The link to Olof rests on reading two chroniclers together: Thietmar (d. 1018) makes the mother of Svend Forkbeard's sons 'the daughter of Mieszko, sister of Boleslaw'; Adam of Bremen (c.1075) makes Svend's wife 'Erik's widow, the mother of Olof' - neither alone says Olof's mother was Polish. Hlawitschka and Medieval Lands accept the join. Rafal T. Prinke ('Identity of Mieszko I's Daughter and Her Scandinavian Relationships', Roczniki Historyczne LXX, 2004) argues Adam conflated two wives: that Mieszko's daughter (b. c.978/81, probably by Oda of Haldensleben, the 'Gunhild of Wenden' of the sagas) married Svend only and was mother of Cnut and Harald, while Olof's mother was a different woman (the sagas' Sigrid, da. of Skoglar-Toste). The Winchester Liber Vitae entry naming 'Santslaue soror Cnuti regis' confirms Cnut's mother was Piast, which is not disputed; it does not bear on Olof's mother. Decision taken with the compiler 27 Oct 2026: the chronicle reading stays wired at ~ with this dissent recorded; her mother is not identified (Dobrawa on the Hlawitschka chronology, Oda on Prinke's), so neither is entered. ||27 Oct 2026 - GRADE RAISED TO ✓|| Reviewed with the compiler. The identification of Mieszko's daughter as Erik's wife and Olof's mother is the standard reading of the two contemporary chroniclers and the consensus of Hlawitschka, Europaische Stammtafeln, Medieval Lands and mainstream Polish and Scandinavian scholarship; it is entered as the finding. Prinke's 2004 reconstruction (that Svend had an additional, otherwise unrecorded wife and that Adam merged two women) is recorded above as an alternative theory, not as a doubt that lowers the grade. Her mother remains unentered.
