About

Olof Skötkonung (d. c.1022), King of Sweden, was the first Swedish king baptised a Christian; at Husaby, by tradition, where the well is still shown; and the first to rule both Swedes and Geats, minting Sweden's first coins with his name upon them. His daughter Ingegerd married Yaroslav the Wise of Kiev and is venerated as St Anna of Novgorod; through his children the blood of the Swedish kings flows west and south, and eventually to us.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED (web-confirmed 25 Jul 2026): OLOF SKOTKONUNG (c.980-1022), first Christian KING OF SWEDEN and first to rule both Swedes and Geats. Son of Eric the Victorious by Sigrid the Haughty (tradition; note-only). Father of Ingegerd (our line). *** Opens the early SWEDISH ROYAL HOUSE - note-only above him, extendable. Direct ancestor. Added 25 Jul 2026. ||27 Oct 2026 - MOTHER WIRED (~)|| A daughter of Mieszko I of Poland - Adam of Bremen: Svend Forkbeard married 'Erik's widow, the mother of Olof', and Olof later restored Svend to Denmark 'because he had his mother'; Saxo: Olof returned to Sweden 'with his mother Syritha'. So Olof was half-brother to Cnut the Great. The saga name 'Sigrid' and parentage (Skoglar-Toste) conflict - see her note. Source: Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), 'Sweden Kings: Erik 'Segersäll' (fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SWEDEN.htm), read 27 Oct 2026'. ||27 Oct 2026|| Mother kept wired at ~ after review; see her note for the Hlawitschka/Medieval Lands versus Prinke (2004) debate on whether Mieszko's daughter was Erik's wife or only Svend's. ||27 Oct 2026|| Polish wife/mother now ✓ (consensus reading of Thietmar and Adam of Bremen); Prinke 2004 noted on her record as an alternative.
