About

Eric the Victorious (d. c.995) is the first king of the Swedes who is more history than saga; the documented head of the Swedish royal house, victor of the great battle of Fyrisvellir near Uppsala, where he broke his nephew's invading host. Above him the line runs into legend and is left there; from him, through his son Olof, the royal houses of the north; and one thread of this family; descend.

Research notes

ERIC 'the VICTORIOUS', King of SWEDEN (c.945-995); father of Olof Skotkonung (I99786, our line). DOCUMENTED FLOOR of the Swedish royal line: the saga-father Bjorn Eriksson and the queen Sigrid the Haughty are legendary and left unwired. Standard documented medieval genealogy per the cited authorities; contested/legendary rungs note-only, not hardened. ||27 Oct 2026 - WIFE WIRED (~)|| The mother of his heir Olof entered as a daughter of Mieszko I of Poland (Thietmar; Adam of Bremen 'Herici relictam, matrem Olaph'), later the second wife of Svend Forkbeard and mother of Cnut; the sagas' 'Sigrid the Haughty, daughter of Skoglar-Toste' is recorded in her note as the conflicting tradition.
