About
Ramiro I (c.1007-1063), the first King of Aragon, turned a Pyrenean county inherited as an illegitimate son's portion into a kingdom, absorbing Sobrarbe and Ribagorza. He was killed at Graus in 1063, in battle against Saragossa and its Castilian allies; by tradition the first crowned casualty of the wars that became crusade. From his mountain realm our line descends through three more Aragonese kings.
