Sabina (fitz Maurice of Shanid)

✓ Sabina or Sadhbh, wife of Thomas FitzMaurice of Shanid (d.1213) and mother of John FitzThomas (d.1261) ancestor of Desmond (CP IV 'Desmond' p.233: 'John fitz Thomas, s. and h. of Thomas fitz Morice (who d. in 1213 or 1214), by Sabina or Sadhbh, his wife'). Widow 1214: made a fine with the King in Poitou for the custody and marriage of the heir, paid £40 for liberty to remarry, and with Nicholas fitz Leon fined 600 marks for custody of the land and heir. ~ As mother of the younger son Maurice (Kerry line): CP VII says she 'tried to obtain custody of the land and heirs in 1214' - probable, not stated. Her own parentage unknown; CP IV rejects the 'Ellinor da. of Jordan de Marisco' of the modern genealogists as a plausible guess only. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol.
