About
Saer de Quincy, first Earl of Winchester, was one of the twenty-five sureties of Magna Carta and one of the most active of the barons in the war that followed. He died at the siege of Damietta on crusade in 1219. His daughter Hawise married the fourth Earl of Oxford, so his blood reaches this family through the de Veres as well as elsewhere.

MARGARET DE BEAUMONT (co-heiress of Leicester). Father of Hawise de Quincy (our line, wife of the 4th Earl of Oxford, I99533) AND of Robert de Quincy (our line, via Maud de Lacy) - so this surety enters the tree by two routes.
