[DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||26 Oct 2026|| ✓ BIFR 1976: SIMON WHITE of KNOCKCENTRY, Sheriff then Mayor of Limerick, d. by 1705; m. 1stly ( - ) SHOULDHAM, 2ndly 8 Sep 1703 Catherine Deane, da. of Sir Matthew Deane, 1st Bt., widow of ( - ) Mann. Lenihan's sheriffs list for the Protestant corporation of c.1679-84 has 'Daniel Bowman, Simon White', and his mayors list '1696 Simon White' (the year after '1691 George Roche, Protestant'; the Catholic mayors of 1689-90 are marked as such). Children by the 1st wife: Thomas of Glenstalier (b. 1656, bur. 1721), JOHN of Cappaghwhite (I81032, d. 1718, our line), Richard of Bantry (d. by 1733, m. Margaret Hamilton - ancestor of the Earls of Bantry), Simon (or Henry) of Knockcentry (m. 1678 Susannah Westropp), William of Ballenguile, Samuel of Ballysimon, Benjamin (b. 1682, ancestor of White of Greenhall). FATHER WIRED: Simon White, Sheriff of Limerick, living 1684 (BIFR). ORIGINS - RECORDED AS UNPROVEN: BIFR 1976: 'It was formerly believed that this family descended from Sir Thomas White of Rickmansworth, Herts, Lord Mayor of London. However, it seems much more likely that the family is of Norman-Irish descent, since ... Simon and his son John bore arms which were identical with those on a monument in St Mary's Church, Clonmel, to an earlier John White, who d. 1555. Simon White was, moreover, the twenty-ninth of his name to be Mayor of Limerick, the first having been Robert White, Mayor in 1213, and it is possible that some of them were his forebears.' The online claim that he was a son of Sir Dominick FitzBartholomew White (Mayor 1636) of the Catholic Whites of Ballyneety, by a 'Christina Bourke', is FamilySearch-only: it is not in O'Hart's 'White of Limerick' pedigree, not in Lenihan, not in BIFR, and conflicts with the religion of the two families (Sir Dominick's sons were Jacobite exiles; Lenihan's 1687 Catholic corporation has a different 'Simon White, Jun., merchant'). NOT adopted.
