About
Sir Francis Kingsmill, a Hampshire knight's sixth son, served in Ireland under Carew in the last campaigns of the Nine Years War, took Ballybeg Abbey for his portion, and was knighted at Dublin in the first spring of King James's reign. He is the founder of the Irish Kingsmills.

Kingsclere 6 Jan 1570), 6th son of Sir William Kingsmill of Sydmonton - ✓ CONFIRMED BY THE HAMPSHIRE VISITATION, which numbers the sons of Sir William by Bridget Raleigh and gives '6. FRANCIS KINGSMILL' in exactly that place; served in Ireland under Sir George Carew 1601-2 (the 1912 OCR's '1621-2' is an error against the 1899 print); ACQUIRED BALLYBEG ABBEY, co. Cork; knighted at Dublin March 1603; d. 25 July 1620; father of William of Ballybeg Abbey (our line) and of Dorothea - whose daughter ELIZABETH ST MICHEL m. 1 Dec 1655 SAMUEL PEPYS the diarist: Pepys's wife was our Levina's first cousin.
