About
William Long kept the Rose Tavern in Russell Street, Covent Garden, one of the best-known drinking houses in Restoration London and a favourite of Samuel Pepys. His daughter Constance married a Lord Kerry, and his great-great-granddaughter married into the Hunts of Curragh. A tavern-keeper's daughter became a baroness, and the family's line runs through the tavern as surely as through the barony.

✓ DOCUMENTED (Cokayne III pp.308-09; trade and address per Burke's LANSDOWNE lineage p.2239): WILLIAM LONG, "WINESELLER, OF THE ROSE TAVERN, COVENT GARDEN, LONDON" - father of Constance (m. c. 1665 William, Lord Kerry). The Rose Tavern, Russell Street, Covent Garden was one of Restoration London's most famous (and notorious) taverns - Pepys drank there. A documented tavern-keeper directly in the maternal line.
