About
William X (1099-1137), Duke of Aquitaine, son of the troubadour duke, ruled the vast southern duchy for a decade and died a pilgrim; struck by sickness at Compostela itself, on Good Friday, at the shrine of St James. His dying arrangement gave his fifteen-year-old daughter and heiress to the King of France's son: she was Eleanor of Aquitaine, and through her this family descends.
