About
Alfonso VI (1040-1109), King of León and Castile, took Toledo in 1085; the old Visigothic capital, the greatest single conquest of the early Reconquest; and styled himself 'emperor of the two religions'. It was against him, and then for him, that the Cid rode; the Almoravid invasion that answered Toledo cost the king his only son, and the crown passed through his daughters. Two of them, Urraca and Elvira-line kin, stand in our ancestry.
