About

Alfonso VII (1105-1157), King of León and Castile, was crowned Emperor of All Spain in León cathedral in 1135, the high point of the Leonese imperial idea, with kings and counts; Navarre, Barcelona, the Moorish princes; doing him homage. He took Almería from the Almohads for a decade and died returning from its loss. At his death the realms split again between his sons; our descent runs through Sancho of Castile and through his daughter Constance, Queen of France.
