Aveline de Clare is a double ancestress by two husbands. By William de Munchensy she was mother of Warin, whose daughter Joan carried Pembroke to the Valences; widowed in 1204, she was married in 1205 to Geoffrey FitzPiers, Earl of Essex, the justiciar of England, and by him was mother of John FitzGeoffrey, Justiciar of Ireland. Two of the great households of the age, one woman, and this family descends from both beds.
