About
Catherine Loftus was a daughter of Adam Loftus, Archbishop of Dublin, Lord Chancellor of Ireland and first Provost of Trinity College, the most powerful churchman of Elizabethan Ireland. She married Sir Francis Berkeley of Askeaton, and through their daughter Gertrude the archbishop's blood runs down this line - one of two roads by which Loftus stands in this ancestry.
