About
Dorothy St Leger, sister of Sir William St Leger, Lord President of Munster, married William Kingsmill of Ballyowen; when the rebellion broke in November 1641 the first act of hostility in Munster was the plundering of her husband's stock, and her brother rode out at the head of his troops to avenge it. She outlived them all, and was still fighting her corner in Chancery in 1675.

PARENTS RESOLVED AND WIRED 8 Aug 2026 (the two-Warham test): DOROTHY, da. of Sir WARHAM ST LEGER the younger (d. 4-5 Mar 1600, killed in the mutual slaying with Hugh Maguire near Cork) by ELIZABETH ROTHE of Kilkenny; sister of Sir William St Leger, Lord President of Munster (collateral). FORENAME: 'Dorothy' is the record name - 'Dorothy, widow of William Kingsmill' living 1675, party to the Massereene suit (App. to 6th Rep. of the Deputy Keeper of the Records in Ireland, p.62, per Abbott 1896). The 'Jane' of Burke's LGI is BURKE-ONLY, an apparent splice with Wykeham-Martin's discredited Leeds Castle pedigree - do not carry it forward. MARRIAGE independently attested three ways: Smith's History of Cork ii.111 (1641, 'brother-in-law of the Lord President' - printed 1750, before Lodge); Lodge VI p.113; DIB a8226 ('his brother-in-law William Kingsmill'). Betham's chart p.247 (NLI, read 8 Aug 2026) concurs. NB Ballyowen: the Civil Survey and the Kingsmill Records place it in par. Ballysheehan, co. TIPPERARY; Lodge says co. Cork - flagged, unresolved, harmless. THE URSULA NEVILLE TRAP - NEVER RE-IMPORT: Lodge VI pp.110-11, Burke's, and the Guinness pedigrees make her a dau. of the ELDER Sir Warham by Ursula Neville (dau. of George Nevill Ld Abergavenny by Mary Stafford, dau. of the Duke of Buckingham - an Edward III descent). BROKEN: Abbott 1896 wrecked it on chronology (Ursula d. 1575; her attested dau. Anne Digges b. 1555; Dorothy alive 1675) and printed the Office of Arms pedigree separating the two Warhams; DIB/ODNB (Clavin 2009) codify the split. The royal blood belongs to the elder Warham's Kentish children only.
