Elizabeth Rothe of Kilkenny buried three husbands in the royal service, and the crown, which had accused her of corresponding with rebels and thought better of it, treated her gently for it.

ELIZABETH ROTHE (d. 1620), of the Kilkenny merchant Rothes; m.1 Henry Davells (killed by rebels 1579), m.2 Humphrey Mackworth (killed), m.3 (mid-1580s) Sir Warham St Leger (killed 1600) - hence 'Ellice alias Elizabeth Rothe alias Macworthe' in the 1582 lease and 'dame Elizabeth St Leger, widow' in 1601 (Lodge VI footnote, pp.110-11). Mother of Sir William St Leger, Lord President of Munster, and of Dorothy Kingsmill (our line).
