About
Eadgifu of Kent (c.903-in or after 966) was the third wife of King Edward the Elder and, by outliving him and both her stepsons' reigns, became the matriarch of the West Saxon royal house: her sons Edmund I and Eadred both wore the crown, and she stood godmother-like over the church reform circle of Dunstan. Stripped of her lands by her grandson Eadwig and restored by Edgar, she lived to see her line secure. Her father Sigehelm, ealdorman of Kent, fell at the Holme in 902.
