Edmond Browne of New Grove in County Clare married Jane Westropp and was the father of Anne, who married Vere Hunt of Curragh in 1760. His forename is not quite settled: the Hunt-side sources call him Edmond, while the Westropp pedigree, recording the same marriage to the same woman in the same place, calls him Thomas. Both cannot be right, and neither witness has yet outranked the other.

✓ DOCUMENTED as the man, FORENAME IN CONFLICT (flagged 21 Jul 2026): "EDMOND Browne, of New Grove, co. Clare" per Cokayne (Complete Baronetage V pp.414-15) and Burke's De Vere article ("Edmund"); but the Westropp of Attyflin pedigree (Burke's LGI pp.757-60) records Jane Westropp's 1726 marriage as to "THOMAS Browne, of Newgrove, co. Clare". Same marriage, same place, same wife - one source has the wrong forename (the Westropp family's own will-dated pedigree is the stronger witness; the Hunt-side sources may have copied each other). Husband of Jane Westropp (m. 1726); father of Anne (our line, m. Vere Hunt of Curragh 1760). Direct ancestor whichever forename is right. BOND TEST NULL 21 Jul 2026: FMP Irish diocesan+prerogative marriage bond indexes searched under BOTH forenames, 1726 +/- 10, no Browne x Jane bond and nothing from Limerick or Killaloe dioceses at all - the relevant diocesan index does not survive for the period (or banns marriage); the bond route is CLOSED. Next tests: FMP wills indexes for a "Browne of Newgrove" will c. 1730-80 (would fix the forename and may name dau. Anne Hunt); Frost's History of Clare (clarelibrary.ie).
