About
Ferdinand the Third united the crowns of Castile and Leon, took Cordoba and Seville from the Moors, and founded the university at Salamanca. He was canonised in 1671 and is Saint Ferdinand, which makes him one of the few saints in this family's direct line. He was the father of Eleanor of Castile, Queen of England.
