Research notes

John Hamilton Lane (the second), of Lanespark - Prerogative will proved 1834: PROI Index to Prerogative Wills 1811-1858, 'Lane, Jno. Hamilton, Lanespark, Co. Tipperary, 1834', and PROI testamentary catalogue 'Lane, John H., Lanespark, co. Tipperary, Esqre, 1834, W/a 4' (images read 13 Jul 2026). Presumed son of John Hamilton Lane (d. 1801) and Jane Hunt, and one of their nine children - the repeat of the full 'John Hamilton' name confirms Hamilton as a fixed family name in this generation. The will itself burned 1922, BUT an abstract should survive in the Inland Revenue Will Registers 1828-1839 (NAI, free online) - NEXT STEP: pull the 1834 register entry, which may list his siblings incl. Anne (White) and the family's state after the father's death. His relationship to 'the last John Lane' (Cambridge, 17th Lancers, ruined by 1858 - Cavenagh) to be established: possibly his son. Grade ~ (index entries; filiation presumed from name+place). Added 13 Jul 2026.
