About

Malcolm II (Máel Coluim mac Cináeda, r.1005-1034), King of Alba, won the battle of Carham on the Tweed in 1018, the victory that fixed Lothian; and with it Scotland's southern border; roughly where it still runs. The last king of the direct male line of Kenneth MacAlpin, he had no son: he secured the crown for his daughter Bethoc's boy, Duncan, and the House of Dunkeld began. Both Bethoc and Duncan are our ancestors.
