About

Maud de Roos, daughter of William, Lord Ros of Helmsley, by Margery de Badlesmere, married John, Lord Welles, and died in 1388. Her place in this tree rests not on Victorian compilation but on modern proof: Douglas Richardson established her parentage from seven independent evidences, among them a Common Pleas suit of 1367 naming her outright and her own seal of 1373, which bears the three water-bougets of Roos. She is one of the best-proven women in the medieval part of this ancestry.
