About
Nest ferch Rhys was a daughter of the last independent king of Deheubarth and was called Helen of Wales, both for her beauty and for the war it started: her abduction from Cenarth Bychan by a Welsh prince set off years of fighting. She was a mistress of Henry the First before her marriage to Gerald of Windsor, and she is the mother of the Geraldines. Every FitzGerald in Ireland, and a great deal of Irish history, descends from her.
