Ralph de Camoys

Ralph de Camoys, Lord Camoys (d.1336), summoned to Parliament 26 Nov. 1313 to 1 April 1335; son and heir of Sir John de Camoys (d. before 1299) and grandson of the 1264 Lord Camoys (Ralph, I100368). Not the 'first Baron' - that style attaches loosely to the 1264 writ and properly to the 1383 creation (his grandson Thomas, I99591). ||TWO MARRIAGES - RESOLVED 8 Aug 2026 (Aynsley was right, and had flagged this early)|| Ralph married TWICE. (1) c.1303 MARGARET de BREWES / de BRAOSE, da. of William de Braose, 1st Baron Braose of Bramber & Gower, by his 3rd wife Mary de Ros - her son was Thomas de Camoys, the baron who d. s.p.s. 1372: a COLLATERAL, extinct line, NOT our ancestress, note-only, not wired. (2) by marriage settlement dated 20 May 1316, ELIZABETH le DESPENSER (I100089), da. of Hugh le Despenser the Elder, Earl of Winchester, by Isabel de Beauchamp - OUR line: she was the mother of Sir John de Camoys (I100072), father of Thomas the Agincourt baron. Why it looked like a conflict: CP CAMOYS (1st edn, p.126) recorded ONLY the first marriage (Margaret de Braose), so CP appeared to contradict our Despenser wiring; but the SECOND marriage to Elizabeth le Despenser is established by the 1316 settlement and the published 'C.P. Correction: Elizabeth le Despenser, wife of Sir Ralph de Camoys' (soc.gen.medieval). RESULT: the DESPENSER + BEAUCHAMP / EARLS OF WARWICK ancestry drawn through I100089 is CORRECT and STANDS. All earlier 'suspect / cut it / demote' flags on this record are SUPERSEDED and void. The Louches/Mortimer gateway remains rejected.
