About

Henry Jones entered Trinity College Dublin in 1771 at the age of fifteen, which tells you the family could by then spare its heir to Divinity. He was the first of three generations of Church of Ireland clergymen at Drombeg, vicars of the small coastal parishes whose names run through this family: Lislee, Kilmacabee, Myross.

Research notes

[DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER.] Note added 24 Jul 2026, drawn from Tu Ne Cede Malis v3.3 and the trade-book chapters. Deceased; the living-person rule does not apply.

Baptism: Ross register: "Henry, son of Mr Edward Jones of Droumbeg", baptised 3 August 1756; sponsors Thomas Hungerford and Michael Beecher. Corrects the old birth year 1760: Brady has him entering Trinity College Dublin 2 November 1771 aged 15. Brady also hedges a possible younger son of his, "of Lisgoold, Cloyne", m. 1842 Miss M. F. Collins of Midleton: query only, not entered. Added Jul 2026.

Marriage: Marriage Licence Bond, Diocese of Cork & Ross (Public Record Office of Ireland) - "Henry Jones and Catherine Travers, 1782" (Cork & Ross Marriage Licences A-M, 1751-1845, indexed under Jones). Primary surviving index; the original bonds burned 1922, the PROI bond index survives. Independently corroborated by Casey, Downey-Prince & Dietrich, "Index of O'Kief, Coshe Mang, Slieve Lougher and Upper Blackwater in Ireland" (Knocknagree Historical Fund, 1952-71), via the Irish Records Extraction Database. Further corroborated by their son being named Jonas Travers Jones after Catherine's father.
