Richard Beamish was a third son of Francis Beamish of Kilmalooda, of the west Cork family that had come over in the Plantation and spread across the county so thoroughly that the name is still everywhere in it.

Research notes

Richard Beamish (b. c.1675; fl. 1758), THIRD son of Francis Beamish of Kilmalooda (d.1679) x Catherine Bernard; merchant in Cork who purchased Garranloughane (Willsgrove) and Upper Bolteen (Mount Beamish) from Charles Alleyn in 1696. m. Mary Townsend of Clonakilty 1695. Children incl. Rev. John; George of Mount Beamish (who m. Frances, dau. of Henry Jones of Drombeg, 1748); Capt. William of Willsgrove RN; Thomas; and JANE, who m. Thomas Beamish of Raheroon 1728 (our line). Both chart labels were right: he was a Cork MERCHANT who held MOUNT BEAMISH. STRUCTURAL FIX DONE June 2026: Catherine Bernard is his mother (Francis Beamish's wife), not Francis's mother - the spurious extra Beamish generation is removed. Source: Kingsley, Landed Families ("Beamish of County Cork"). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]

Marriage: Richard Beamish x Mary Townsend, m. 1695. NB: the chart makes this couple Jane Beamish's parents; an alternative pedigree (Burke's-derived, in Jane's own note) names her father as Richard Beamish of Mountbeamish - the two Richards are not yet reconciled.
