About

Richard Damery was baptised about 1822 at Kilnameela and sailed from Liverpool on the Guy Mannering, reaching New York on 8 April 1850 with a kinsman also called James. He settled by way of Connecticut in Illinois and married Mary Knight, founding the American branch that would, four generations later, write the letters that reached Aynsley's father in Cork. His brother James stayed in Ireland. The two halves of the family never saw each other again, and it took a hundred and forty years and a genealogist in Utah to put the two files back together.

Research notes

Bapt. c.1822 (ffolliott); 1824 on the Granby stone. Sailed Liverpool-New York on the Guy Mannering, 8 Apr 1850; married Mary Knight - the documented American line (descendant Judy Wight). Member trees place his death at Blue Mound, Macon Co., Illinois (1890) - to verify, as the Judy Wight descent is Connecticut.
