About
Robert le Bossu, second Earl of Leicester, was Chief Justiciar of England for fifteen years under Henry II, one of the most trusted and least dramatic great men of his age - a twin, a founder of abbeys, a survivor of every storm from the White Ship generation to the Becket quarrel. His father was the Count of Meulan, his sister Isabel was Strongbow's mother, and his daughter Hawise married into the Gloucester house: this family descends from him and from two of his siblings by separate roads.
