About
Saint Margaret of Wessex was a granddaughter of Edmund Ironside, born in Hungarian exile, shipwrecked in Scotland and married to its king. She reformed the Scottish church, fed the poor at her own table, founded Dunfermline Abbey, and was canonised in 1250. She died three days after her husband and eldest son were killed in Northumberland. Through her the old West Saxon royal line, driven out of England by the Conquest, comes back into this family by way of Scotland.
