About
Matilda of Scotland was a daughter of Malcolm Canmore and Saint Margaret, and so of the old West Saxon royal line through her mother. Her marriage to Henry the First joined the Norman conquerors to the house they had displaced, which was much of its political point. She was regent in her husband's absences and is the mother of the Empress Matilda.
