Research notes

~ William FitzDavid de Barry, called 'moyle' (bald), of Ibawne, co. Cork, yr. s. of David, 3rd Lord Barry (CP I p.442); his elder brother John, 4th Lord, had licence 1301 to alienate land in Ibawne and appears to have alienated it to him. The Carew pedigrees make him a brother of John kittagh, 7th Lord, but Rev. E. Barry 'has demonstrated that he must have been grand-uncle, not brother' (CP note). m. Margaret, da. of Miles, Lord Courcy (CP chart). Ancestor of the Barry Roe. ~: CP gives this rung in its text, from the Carew MSS pedigrees as corrected by Rev. E. Barry and Burtchaell, with no dates - hence ~. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. I (1910), 'Barry, Barrymore or Buttevant' pp.441-2 and the folding pedigree facing p.442 (G.D. Burtchaell from Rev. E. Barry's 'Barrymore', JCHAS 1899-1902, and the Carew MSS pedigrees), read 3 Nov 2026 (archive.org djvu text).
