About
Constance of Arles (c.986-1032), Queen of France, was the third wife of Robert the Pious and one of the most turbulent consorts of the Capetian age: chroniclers blamed her southern entourage for importing new fashions and new quarrels, and she openly backed her younger sons in rebellion against both husband and heir. Fierce as her reputation was, the whole later Capetian line runs through her. She was a daughter of William the Liberator of Provence, and our ancestor twice over; through King Henry I and through Robert of Burgundy.
