David I King of Scots

David the First is the king who made Scotland modern. He brought Norman families north, founded burghs and abbeys by the dozen, minted the first Scottish coinage and reorganised the church, and the settlement he built lasted four hundred years. He was a son of Malcolm Canmore and Saint Margaret, and he had been brought up at the English court, which is where he learned it.
