About
Hugh Magnus, count of Vermandois, was a younger son of the King of France and a leader of the First Crusade, where he was shipwrecked, taken to Constantinople, and sent home to raise reinforcements. He never returned to Jerusalem. He married the heiress of Vermandois, and so joined the Capetian kings to the Carolingian counts.
