About
King John lost Normandy, quarrelled with the Pope until England was placed under interdict, taxed his barons past endurance, and in June 1215 was compelled at Runnymede to seal Magna Carta. The charter named twenty-five barons to enforce it against him. This family descends from John, and also from at least six of the twenty-five, including the man who led them. Both sides of that meadow are in the same bloodstream.
