About
Nicholas fitz Maurice, second Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw, was knighted in 1313 and died in 1317. His son William killed the chief of the MacCarthys in open court before the Judge of Assize at Tralee in 1325, and was blinded for it and his lands forfeited, which was thought at the time to be mercy.

Slany, dau. of Connor O'Brien, Prince of Thomond" (Burke's own "allegedly" - the marriage ~); d. 1317. Children: WILLIAM - who killed Dermot Og, Chief of the MacCarthys, IN COURT before the Judge of Assize at Tralee 1325, "for which blinded but not executed, though his lands were forfeited" (NB the JCHAS 1920 article attributed this deed to "the 4th Lord" - variance, Burke's preferred); MAURICE 3rd Baron (collateral - captured by the 1st Earl of Desmond and SENTENCED TO DEATH BY STARVATION in prison at Castle Island, 16 Aug 1339; his son David d.v.p.); JOHN 4th Baron (our line); Aveline (m. her cousin the Earl of Desmond).
