Richard William Jones was born at Drombeg in 1872 and raised the last generation of Drombeg Joneses there. He was an official of the Cork Local Bankruptcy Court in 1911 and later returned to farm at Drombeg, where the census of 1926 still finds him. He died in the house in February 1944, his occupation entered as Gentleman, with his daughter at the bedside: which is the record that disproves the newspaper's tidy story that the family left in 1923.

Birth: Birth/baptism at Union Hall, Co. Cork (Ireland Select Births & Baptisms index, FHL 255866); son of Henry (Harry) Jones and Eliza Hester Smyth - confirming the parentage. (The 1926 census loosely gave "Kilfaughnabeg/Leap" - the same Glandore district.)
Death: Cork civil death register, Skibbereen R.D., 1944, entry No. 344: died 26 Feb 1944 at Drombeg, Glandore; aged 71, married, "Gentleman"; asthmatic bronchitis / cardiac failure, certified. Informant his daughter Dorothy Damery (Alice Dorothy, Aynsley's grandmother), "Present at Death, Drombeg Glandore"; registered 13 Mar 1944, Ellen Donovan, Asst Registrar. Supersedes the previous "Mar 1944, Skibbereen" (that was the registration month and district, not the death). Primary proof the family was still resident at Drombeg House in 1944 - the anchor for the departure window (26 Feb 1944 to Alice Blanche's death in Cork city, Nov 1958).

England), married 10 years, 3 children born and 3 living; children Henry Newport (9), Alice Dorothy (8, Aynsley's grandmother), Richard Herbert (2); servant Sarah O'Brien (40, RC). In Cork city for his court post; he later returned to farm Drombeg (1926).
Residence, 1926: 1926 Census (Schedule 25): Head, age 53, b. Kilfaughnabeg/Leap, Church of Ireland, Farmer at Drombeg (105 statute acres); household incl. wife Alice Blanche (b. England), son Henry H.E. (24), servant Mary Hayes (RC). Wife recorded 3 children born, all living.
Marriage: Belfast Newsletter, 21 Jan 1901: "JONES-WHITE - January 17, at Blackrock Church, by the Rev. R. Jones, D.D., uncle of the bridegroom, Richard Jones, son of the late Harry Jones, Drombeg, Glandore, Co. Cork, to Alice Blanche White, second daughter of the late Surgeon-Major Hugh B. White, M.D., and granddaughter of the late Newport White, of Kilmoylan, Co. Limerick."
