About
Adelaide of Aquitaine (c.945-1004) was the queen at the founding moment of the Capetian dynasty: wife of Hugh Capet, she was crowned with him in 987 when the great men of Francia set the Carolingians aside, and their son Robert the Pious was anointed co-king within months to fix the succession. A daughter of William Towhead of Aquitaine and the Norman Gerloc, she tied the new royal house to both Aquitaine and Normandy; lines that are ours as well.
