About

Maurice the Magnanimous, second Baron Berkeley, ended his days a prisoner of Edward II in Wallingford Castle, dying there in 1326. Within the year the wheel had turned entirely: his son and grandson held that same king prisoner at Berkeley Castle, where Edward was murdered. Maurice had married Eve la Zouche in 1289, and this line descends through their younger son of Stoke Gifford.
