About

Eadnoth the Staller (killed 1068) was a high officer; staller, or constable; of Edward the Confessor and then of Harold, and one of the very few English magnates to serve the Conqueror after Hastings. He was killed at Bleadon in Somerset in 1068, leading the defence against the invading sons of his old master Harold. Through him the Berkeleys are one of the only great English houses with a proven male line from before the Conquest; and so, through his granddaughter-line, are we.
