About

Gruffudd Fychan, hereditary prince of Powys Fadog and lord of Glyndyfrdwy and Sycharth, died about 1369, leaving a son the world would come to know: Owain Glyndwr, the last native Prince of Wales, took from this quiet border lord his descent from the old royal house of Powys. That descent now stands wired in this tree, ten rungs from Gruffudd to Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, king of Powys and Gwynedd, who died in 1075.

Research notes

*** UPDATE - READ FIRST (15 Sep 2026): the ascent described below as a floor / end of line / note-only HAS SINCE BEEN WIRED - parents (or father) are now in the tree; see the dated layer at the END of this note for the sources, grades and any loops closed. The opening text is kept as audit trail. *** ✓ GRUFFUDD FYCHAN II, Tywysog of POWYS FADOG, Lord of Glyndyfrdwy and Sycharth (d.c.1369); father of Owain Glyndwr (our line). DOCUMENTED FLOOR here: the princes of Powys Fadog above him, running back to Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, are note-only, extendable. Standard well-documented late-medieval Welsh genealogy per the cited authorities (web-confirmed 7 Aug 2026); contested rungs note-only, not hardened. || POWYS FADOG ASCENT WIRED 14 Sep 2026 (Lloyd, History of Wales vol.2 read first-hand on archive.org + Bartrum-class standard for the 14th-century rungs, which are anchored in English records): father GRUFFUDD OF GLYNDYFRDWY (d. by c.1343). His mother (Elizabeth Lestrange?) ~ NOTE-ONLY - would ring to the existing le Stranges if ever proven; do not wire without a document.
