Sir William Burley

Sir William Burley of Broncroft in Corvedale, Shropshire, lawyer and administrator, was twice Speaker of the House of Commons, in 1437 and again in 1445, and sat for his county in something like nineteen parliaments across forty years - one of the great parliamentary careers of the Lancastrian age, conducted from a small castle in the Shropshire hills. He married Ellen Grendon, and his daughter carried the line onward. He is one of two Speakers in this tree, and the two sat for houses at opposite ends of the ancestry, never knowing they would one day share a descendant.
