About

Llywelyn ap Seisyll (d.1023), King of Gwynedd and Deheubarth, rose from outside the old royal lines to master most of Wales, and his reign was remembered as a golden moment; the chronicle says that in his time the land was 'replete with abundance of wealth and men'. He beat down a pretender at Abergwaun and died at the height of his power; his son Gruffudd ap Llywelyn briefly ruled all Wales. Our descent runs through his house and its alliance with Powys.
