✓ [UPGRADED 15 Oct 2026: Book of Lacock (Lacock Abbey chronicle), as quoted in Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), 'English Nobility Medieval 1' (Salisbury): daughters of 'Guillelmus Longespe ex...Ela' include 'Idam', who married 'Walterus filius Roberti', by whom she had Katherine and Loretta (nuns at Lacock) and 'Elam, quam duxit primo Guillelmus de Dodingseles' - confirming Ela as daughter of Walter fitz Robert by Ida Longespee and granddaughter of the Earl; CP 1st ed. compressed a generation.] Ela, daughter of Sir Walter fitz Robert (FitzWalter) of Woodham Walter and Little Dunmow (d.1258) by Ida Longespee; wife before 1273 of Sir William de Odingsells of Maxstoke; mother of Margaret, wife of Sir John de Grey of Rotherfield. RING 15 Oct 2026: sister of Robert, 1st Lord FitzWalter (I99800), so Margaret descends twice from Robert FitzWalter the Magna Carta surety. CONFLICT NOTED 15 Oct 2026: Complete Peerage 1st ed. vol. II p.304 (CLINTON, supplied by Aynsley) makes Ida de Odingsells' mother 'Ela, da. of William (Longespee), Earl of Salisbury' - i.e. a daughter of the Earl himself (d.1226). Not followed: Ela married before 1273 a husband born c.1240, which fits a daughter of Walter fitz Robert (d.1258) by Ida Longespee far better; on that reading CP1 has compressed a generation (Ela the Earl's granddaughter through Ida). Sources: D. Richardson, Royal Ancestry (2013) IV p.271 (as quoted at gdcooke.org); Stirnet 'Odingsells1'; Complete Peerage III (Clinton) and V (FitzWalter) cited for this by a secondary summary - pages not yet seen. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 15 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
