About
Marared ferch Madog was a daughter of Madog ap Maredudd, the last king of a united Powys, and she married into Gwynedd and bore Llywelyn the Great. Wales's two chief royal houses meet in her son: through his father Llywelyn came of Gwynedd, and through Marared of the kings of Powys back to Bleddyn ap Cynfyn - a braid this tree carries complete on both sides, for it descends from the princes of Powys twice more by other roads. Her own mother is unrecorded among Madog's consorts, and the record says so plainly.

✓ MARARED ferch MADOG, dau. of Madog ap Maredudd, Prince of POWYS; mother of Llywelyn the Great (our line). LOOP CLOSED 16 Sep 2026: her father MADOG AP MAREDUDD is now IN THE TREE (I100787, Powys Fadog ascent) - Marared joined him in a deliberately MOTHERLESS family (F100313), her mother unrecorded among his consorts. Llywelyn the Great now descends from the Powys kings through his MOTHER - a third Gwynedd-Powys braid.
