About
Fulk IV 'le Réchin'; 'the quarrelsome' (1043-1109), Count of Anjou; imprisoned his own brother for decades to take the county, and wrote history: a fragment survives of his chronicle of Anjou, the earliest known history written by a lay prince of his age. His third wife Bertrade de Montfort abandoned him for King Philip I of France, the scandal of the reign; and both Fulk and Philip are our ancestors. His son Fulk V became King of Jerusalem; our line runs through the Plantagenets.
