About
Giselbert, Count of the Maasgau (died after 877), is famous for one audacious act: in 846 he abducted a daughter of the Emperor Lothair, carried her off to Aquitaine and married her, to force the emperor to restore his lands. It worked. His son Reginar founded the dynasty of Hainaut and Lorraine.
